“When I designed the festival in the 80s of 20th century, phrase process-space was like the most summarizing for the postmodernist tendencies. Today similar formulation would concentrate more about the “process” and its meanings and antinomies. A lot of space for reflection abut the festival and beyond opens”
Dimitar Grozdanov, catalog “Process – Space”, p. 5/ 2016
“The idea of Dimitar Grozdanov to create festival “Process – Space” as a forum for modern and contemporary art begins at end of 80s XX century. At that time a lot of political, social, cultural and artistic Changes happened in Bulgaria, which are visibly irreversible. For all Bulgarian artists this is somehow a light in the tunnel and a begging of the changes, which will bring equality with the art processes in the West. The idea of Grozdanov finds art like-minded people in 1991, such as Boris Klimentiev, Diana Popova, Lidia Georgieva, which are among the first organizers of the festival. An invitation to a contemporary art conference was issued and the ambitious program of the festival was sent to many artists and art critics. Rija marinska, Hristo Gospodinov, Sasho Stoitzov, Ruen Ruenov, Art group “The Edge, Elena Panayotova, Elena Ivanova, Elisaveta Musakova, Stefan Akrabov, Galina Yotova, Sava Stoimenov and more art colleagues from Bulgaria are included in the friendship and partners list. The support from abound is also serious and really motivating. Rapidly the main characteristics of the festival are – contemporary, international, annual, private, sea coasted, independent, non- conventional, avangard, interdisciplinary, progressive, dynamic…
So, like s joke, the first brick of the festival is done, it stands the test of time and is running till today…”

“Sitting in the courtyard of his studio, among the spontaneous exposition of his works, Dimitar Grozdanov, art critic, shared with the visiting journalists his idea for the first private festival of modern art “Process – Space” in Balchik, which will be held between May 17th and June 7th. In the near past, our artistic life was obstructed with thematic group exhibition where more liberal works could hardly find a place. Artist with more advanced thinking were trying to find ways to sell their art in the West. In the last decade although somewhat shyly, groups of artists searching new forms of synthesis saw a pulling down of boundaries between the art begin to appear. The festival will be enable the exchange of ideas and the possibility to compare artists from the Balkans and the world. The idea of the festival was already being supported by world famous artists such Christo, Susumu Endo, Roberto Matta, Joan Hernandes Pijuan, Joan Brossa who have sent their works and are the first sponsors. Participants in the festival will donate their works created in Balchik to start a fund for future Gallery of Modern Art in Bulgaria.

“In my opinion, private has more pragmatic meaning, beside the general direction of the festival outlined by Dimitar Grozdanov – to create a new “contact” Balkan area of art and to set the basement of s gallery of modern art. …Complicity, fun, creativity, and mutual inspiration – all was in Balchik and it gives hope for the future development of the idea.”
Elisaveta Musakova/ catalog “Process - Space 20”, p13/ 2016
“Established in 1992 Process - Space” festival is perhaps the most sustainable event in unconventional art in Bulgaria. Immediately after the political changes in our country, Dimitar Grozdanov decided to organize a large international event in Balchik as a kind of reaction to the difficult situation in which the whole society and art in particular falls.”
