Exclusive Premiere of
“THE BRICK/ 2023“ Exhibition – 08/06/23, 18:00
in the ReBonkers Cultural Center, Varna
The "THE BRICK/ 2023" art campaign is the latest large-scale initiative of the "Process - Space" Foundation, which provokes ideologically and creatively Bulgarian artists from all over the country. The organization is a long-standing organizer of the contemporary art festival of the same name, which has established itself as the longest-standing festival in Bulgaria. The new initiative takes place in March and April 2023, with 150 selected Bulgarian artists from several generations receiving an invitation to participate and a "working brick" to transform into a work of art. Each artist can transform the item according to his/her artistic visions and understandings associated with the theme. The initial expectation of the organizers is that a large part of the invited artists will respond to the challenge and join the campaign. Although diverse in their creativity, the large selection of participants aims to raise questions that remain unresolved or socially divisive over their resolution.

"An invitation was sent to 150 selected Bulgarian artists from the
country and abroad, and the scale really made the project logistically
difficult, but we hoped to obtain a representative sample of authors who accept the challenge and through their works they "give an answer" to
the questions set in the campaign, and still manage to have their works
and especially their messages reach us. The joined participants are 115
in number and all but one consider the theme of the brick, as a metaphor for the first brick laid for a contemporary art museum in Bulgaria, in
very different ways. We received both converted "bricks" and text
messages, projects, videos, paintings and graphic works. Every single
item received is unique, both in its individual essence and in the
overall integrity of the intended exposition, due to their ideological
unification and a message for a long-awaited development of the museum
work in Bulgaria," says the curator of the campaign, Hristina Bobokova.

The "THE BRICK/ 2023" Exhibition will present the works of the 115 participants who took part in the large-scale art campaign that was held in March-April throughout the country. During the premiere, the organizers will present the results of the project and its planned development. The exposition will include all interpretations received on the theme set by the campaign or the transformation of the "brick" into a work of art.
The exhibition can be seen until 03/07/23 at the "ReBonkers" CC.
